Fubara vs. Wike: Ex-Gov Amaechi Says Fight Is Over State Funds

Date:

Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that the ongoing political crisis between the suspended state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is rooted in a dispute over money sharing.

Amaechi made this claim during an interview with DW on Saturday, asserting that the conflict has little to do with governance but rather financial interests.

“The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel?” Amaechi questioned. “Nigerians don’t dislike corruption anymore. I’ve not seen anybody on the street querying what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the problem is about?”

The former governor also condemned the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, describing it as unconstitutional.

The political crisis in Rivers State has escalated in recent months, leading to the suspension of Governor Fubara amid accusations and counter-accusations between his camp and Wike’s allies. However, both parties have yet to publicly disclose the root cause of their dispute.

Amaechi’s statement adds a new dimension to the controversy, raising questions about the role of financial dealings in the ongoing feud.
