A 37-year-old woman, Linda Stephen, has approached a Kaduna customary court, seeking to dissolve her six-year marriage over her husband’s excessive sexual demands.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Mrs. Stephen, a resident of Ungwan Sunday, told the court that her husband, Felix Stephen, frequently subjected her to prolonged sexual encounters, often from midnight until the early hours of the morning. She claimed that he ignored her pleas to stop and even resorted to physical violence whenever she refused his advances.
“I urge the court to dissolve this marriage because I can’t stand his excessive sexual urge. He likes sex too much, and I can’t bear it,” she stated.
She further revealed that she moved out of their home three months ago due to the abuse and that her husband’s relatives had been pleading with her to return, unaware of the situation she had been enduring.
In response, Mr. Stephen admitted to his actions but pleaded with the court to give him time to reconcile with his wife. He expressed his deep love for her and assured the court that he was willing to control his urges if she returned.
“I took my uncles and friends to her parents’ house to plead with her, but she refused to listen to us and walked out on us,” he said.
The presiding judge, John Dauda, adjourned the case until May 6 to allow both parties time for reconciliation. He urged them to maintain peace and seek an amicable resolution.
