Kanu’s Lawyer’s Apology Eases Legal Tensions – Wife Speaks

Date:

The wife of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Uchechi Kanu, has said that the recent apologies tendered by her husband’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), at the Federal High Court in Abuja are beginning to have a positive impact.

In a statement shared with Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, Uchechi described Agabi’s intervention as a crucial step in easing tensions surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s prolonged legal battle. She emphasized that the apology was Agabi’s initiative to address past courtroom disputes and promote dialogue for a peaceful resolution.

During Friday’s court session, Agabi apologized to Justice Binta Nyako, the prosecution team, and Kanu’s legal team, acknowledging that the IPOB leader had been angry for a long time. He expressed regret over Kanu’s past verbal attacks against the Federal Government’s counsel and other legal officials.

“My husband accepted the need for Chief Kanu Agabi to clarify issues surrounding previous courtroom events, particularly the tensions at Justice Binta Nyako’s court, which affected the judiciary,” Uchechi Kanu said.

She further noted that Agabi’s reputation as a senior lawyer necessitated his move to restore decorum in the legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Justice James Omotosho, who is currently presiding over the case, reportedly apologized to Kanu for the prolonged delays and mismanagement of his trial, acknowledging his difficult legal journey.

Kanu’s case remains a significant issue, with his supporters and legal representatives calling for a fair and expedited resolution.
