Popular Nigerian activist and actor, Mr Macaroni, has shared a deeply personal story about financial loss, debt struggles, and betrayal, urging his followers to learn from his experience.
In a heartfelt post on X, the comedian and skit maker recounted how he lost all his life savings to a scam and a failed investment between 2021 and 2022. He revealed that the setback forced him into borrowing, eventually leading to a financial crisis that saw him accumulate debts exceeding half a billion naira.
“You all know I never bring my personal issues to social media,” he wrote. “But I want people to learn from my experience. A part of me also won’t rest until I publicly thank God for His grace.”
Mr Macaroni, whose real name is Debo Adebayo, admitted that after losing all his money, he borrowed heavily to meet his commitments, confident that his earnings would allow him to pay back easily. However, he soon realized that much of his income was being used to service interest on the loans, further worsening his financial troubles.
“Please don’t borrow money! But if you must, please be responsible,” he warned. He also acknowledged his past financial recklessness, stating that his habit of prioritizing the needs of others over his own had contributed to his struggles.
The situation became even more painful when he was betrayed by someone he considered a close friend and sister. The experience left him completely destabilized.
Despite these challenges, 2024 marked a major breakthrough in his acting career, with two of his films screened at international festivals and his performances receiving critical acclaim. However, he described the year as “the most troubling” of his life due to the weight of his financial burdens.
Determined to turn things around, Mr Macaroni made tough decisions with the support of family and friends. Now in a better place, he encouraged his followers not to lose hope in the face of adversity.
“This letter of love is for my people going through whatever. Please DO NOT GIVE UP! People will betray you, but you must not let that derail you,” he advised.
He concluded with a message of resilience, urging everyone to be accountable, seek help, and make better financial decisions. “May the love in our hearts be forever greater than the hate, betrayal, and wickedness in the world,” he wrote.
