Napoli eye Hojlund in swap deal for Osimhen

Date:

Napoli are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund as part of a potential swap deal involving Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.

The Serie A club, under newly appointed manager Antonio Conte, is planning an ambitious summer rebuild ahead of their expected return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli view Højlund, 22, as a key target to strengthen their attack.

The Danish striker, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta for £72m in August 2023, has struggled for consistency in the Premier League, scoring just 13 league goals.

Despite his recent goal against Leicester City, United are reportedly open to offers, with a valuation of around £50m.

Napoli, who are set to lose Osimhen in the summer, could use the Nigerian forward in a direct swap deal to facilitate Højlund’s return to Italy.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been in prolific form, leading the Turkish Süper Lig scoring charts with 26 goals in all competitions.

His performances have attracted interest from multiple European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Napoli’s financial position has been strengthened by the £59m sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG in January, giving them flexibility in the transfer market.

Conte is reportedly keen on signing up to seven new players, with another striker needed to provide competition for Romelu Lukaku, should he remain at the club.

Højlund, who previously played in Serie A with Atalanta, is said to be open to the idea of returning to Italy. Speaking after his goal against Leicester, he acknowledged his struggles at United but expressed confidence in his development.

“I’m happy to get on the scoresheet, and I’m sure more goals will come,” he said.

“We’re starting to build a better connection between myself and the team.”

Manchester United, meanwhile, may hesitate to part ways with Højlund after just one season, especially at a financial loss.

However, with Osimhen’s proven goal-scoring record, the club could see him as an immediate upgrade in their search for a reliable No. 9.

As the summer transfer window approaches, discussions between the two clubs are expected to continue, with both sides weighing their options in what could be one of the biggest moves of the summer.
