The newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has officially unveiled his official title, instructing the public and media on the correct manner of addressing him.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Oba Owoade declared that he would be formally addressed as His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, Alaafin of Oyo.
The statement emphasized the proper use of his title, particularly noting that the numeral “I” following “Owoade” represents the Roman numeral one and should not be mistaken for the English number “1.”
“The public is enjoined to adhere strictly to the wordings as exactly stated above and without adding a prefix or suffix to any of the names,” the statement read.
Oba Owoade, who recently emerged as the new Alaafin, is set to undergo traditional rites leading up to his formal coronation on April 5, 2025. His reign is expected to continue the historic legacy of the Alaafin dynasty while addressing key issues such as youth unemployment and development in the Oyo Kingdom.
