Brighton Fight Back Twice to Deny Man City Vital Win

Date:

Manchester City squandered a crucial opportunity to claim three points as Brighton twice came from behind to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium. The result further dents City’s Premier League title defense, while the Seagulls continue their push for a top-four finish.

Erling Haaland gave City an early lead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute, marking his 100th goal involvement in the Premier League. However, Brighton responded in the 21st minute when Pervis Estupiñán’s curling free kick found the back of the net after a mistake from City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

City regained the lead just before halftime, with Omar Marmoush capitalizing on a Brighton defensive error to fire home his fourth goal since joining the club in January. But Brighton refused to back down, and in the 50th minute, a defensive mix-up led to Abdukodir Khusanov scoring an own goal, handing the visitors a deserved equalizer.

The draw means City have now conceded 40 goals this season—more than in any other Premier League campaign under Pep Guardiola. While a Champions League spot remains within reach, their title ambitions appear increasingly unlikely.

Brighton, under manager Fabian Hürzeler, continue their impressive run and are now firmly in contention for a top-four finish. City, meanwhile, will need a swift response to reignite their stuttering campaign.
