AFN Fails to Upload SWAC 4th Leg Results, Meeting Director Orders Refunds

Date:

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has declined to upload the results of the South West Athletics Conference (SWAC) 4th Leg World Athletics F Category Meeting held on February 28, 2025, at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, a move that has sparked frustration among athletes and stakeholders.

Following this development, PRO and Statistician of SWAC, Olalekan Soetan, has announced that all registration fees paid by participants will be refunded since the results will not reflect on their World Athletics (WA) profiles.

He urged clubs and individual competitors who registered for the event to send their account details privately for the refund process.

“This is an unfortunate situation, and as the Meeting Director, I will ensure that all participants get their money back, “Soetan stated.
“I shall refund all registration fees paid by participants once results won’t be featured in athletes’ WA profiles.

“Clubs and individual competitors who paid for the registration fees should send me their account details privately for their refunds.”
The refusal by AFN to upload results from a WA-recognised event has raised concerns within the athletics community.

Soetan advised that due to this recurring issue, SWAC should cancel the remaining four competitions it registered on the WA Calendar to prevent further disruptions.
Athletes, coaches, and clubs have expressed their disappointment, questioning the rationale behind AFN’s decision and the impact on Nigerian athletes seeking global recognition through official rankings.

Efforts to obtain an official response from AFN were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
