NDLEA Uncovers Drug-Laced Candies Targeting School Kids in Lagos

Date:

In a shocking discovery, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a batch of cannabis-infused candies intended for sale in a children’s store in Lagos.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, announced the seizure on Sunday via a post on X.com, accompanied by images of the confiscated sweets. The candies, which were deceptively branded as regular treats for children, were found to contain a highly potent strain of cannabis.

Babafemi revealed that the importer had stocked the drug-laced products in a kiddies’ shop, raising serious concerns about the safety of children’s snacks and the potential targeting of school-aged kids.

“One of the latest seizures by NDLEA officers is candies confirmed to contain a strong strain of cannabis. The importer shipped them in for sale in his kiddies’ shop in Lagos, where he sells children’s items, making it seem as though school kids were the target,” he stated.

Authorities are now investigating the source of the importation and whether similar products have entered the market. Meanwhile, the NDLEA has urged parents to be extra vigilant about the snacks their children consume.

“Parents, let’s stay alert to the sweets and snacks our kids take to school or bring home,” Babafemi cautioned.

This latest bust highlights the growing trend of drug-laced consumables disguised as harmless treats, reinforcing the need for stricter monitoring of imported products and increased public awareness.
