FG Approves 154 Hospitals for Free Emergency Obstetric Care, VVF Surgeries

Date:

The Federal Government has approved 154 health facilities across Nigeria to provide free emergency obstetric care for women facing pregnancy-related complications. Additionally, 18 centres nationwide have been designated for free vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) surgeries.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, made this announcement on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He emphasized that the selected facilities are well-equipped with modern medical infrastructure and trained personnel to ensure high-quality maternal healthcare.

“These centres will cater to women experiencing complications during pregnancy, labour, delivery, or postpartum, ensuring both mother and baby receive the necessary medical attention,” Pate stated.

VVF, a serious childbirth-related condition that affects women due to prolonged or obstructed labour, will also be treated free of charge in the designated centres. The government’s move aims to improve maternal health outcomes and reduce maternal mortality rates across the country.

The full list of health facilities offering these services was released in a report by Channels TV, highlighting the nationwide distribution of the initiative. This effort aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance access to quality healthcare for women, particularly in underserved regions.
