The Canadian Government is offering 70,000 summer job opportunities to youth across the country in 2025 through its Canada Summer Jobs program.
This initiative, designed for young people between the ages of 15 and 30, aims to help them gain valuable work experience, develop skills, and explore various career paths while earning income to support their education and living expenses.
The announcement was made by Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, Marci Ien, who emphasized the government’s continued commitment to providing employment opportunities for youth.
Building on the success of previous years, the CSJ program surpassed its 2024 target by creating 71,200 job placements, exceeding expectations.
The 70,000 job placements for 2025 will cover a wide range of sectors, including recreation, food services, marketing, tourism, housing construction, and environmental protection.
Starting April 21, 2025, young job seekers will be able to access these opportunities via the Job Bank website and mobile app.
In addition to offering general job placements, the program specifically targets youth facing employment barriers.
These groups include Indigenous youth, racialised youth, youth with disabilities, and those from rural or remote communities.
The focus on equity aims to ensure all young people, regardless of background, have access to skills development and employment opportunities.
The CSJ program is part of the broader Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which helps young people transition into the workforce.
According to a 2024 survey, 92 per cent of participants reported increased confidence in multiple skills essential for future employment, and 85 per cent expressed optimism about their future job prospects.
For the 2025-2026 period, the Canadian government is investing $351.2m in YESS, with $200.5m dedicated to creating summer job opportunities.
The investment is particularly focused on sectors experiencing critical labor shortages, such as housing construction.
Additionally, $150.7 million will support job placements and employment services for youth across Canada.
“A summer job is more than just a paycheck—it’s an opportunity for young people to gain experience, develop new skills, and explore career paths,” said Minister Ien.
“Through the Canada Summer Jobs program, thousands of youth will have the chance to grow, contribute to their communities, and build a strong foundation for their future.”
