The inaugural edition of the Amazons Tennis Tournament will take place on Saturday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The event, themed “Accelerate Action” to collectively foster a more inclusive world for women, is organised by PDWheels Media in partnership with the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
This intra-club tournament will feature 72 recreational players from 23 Lagos-based clubs, along with four junior professional female players.
The competition includes singles and American doubles matches, as well as a special exhibition doubles match where male players will wear wigs in solidarity with women.
Beyond tennis, the event will also offer aerobics sessions, free health checks, and informative talks on fibroids.
Sponsoring brands and media representatives will be present to cover the tournament.
Winners will receive cash prizes, with the singles champion earning N200,000, the runner-up N100,000, and the doubles match winners N50,000.
The event is an initiative of Joy Obayemi and Chukwudumebi Agu, founders of PDWheels Media, the parent company of Sports on the Wheels and the convener of ATT.
Attendance is exclusive to registered participants, and the tournament will be broadcast across various media platforms.
