Yobe Committed To Implement Contributory Pension Scheme

Date:

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, has stated his administration’s commitment to implementing the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for state and local government employees.

He said his administration will dialogue with trade unions and other stakeholders to ensure a better understanding of the scheme.

Governor Buni said this when the National Pension Commission (PenCom) visited him at the Government House in Damaturu.

The Governor emphasised the importance of creating a platform for government, labour unions, and civil servants to be on the same page regarding the scheme.

He further highlighted the need for a law to serve as a legal instrument to institutionalise the scheme and ensure consistency. This move is expected to provide a future for civil servants after retirement.

In her remarks, the Director-General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, appealed for the establishment of the Contributory Pension Scheme law and the setting up of a Pension Bureau in the state.

She commended Governor Buni for his pragmatic measures in governance, programmes, policies, and infrastructural developments.

The dialogue with stakeholders is expected to commence soon, with the aim of ensuring a smooth implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme in Yobe State.
