Court Grants Portable N2m Bail Assault Charges in Abeokuta

Date:

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was arraigned on Thursday, February 19, at the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for alleged assault.

The 30-year-old singer faced five charges, including conspiracy, assault, restriction, possession of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause harm. Portable pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The case stems from an incident involving officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA), whom Portable allegedly assaulted. Despite multiple police invitations, the singer evaded authorities until his recent surrender. His nine protégés, arrested in connection with the same incident, were arraigned on February 6.

Portable’s legal counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, appealed to the court for bail, stating that the singer had become remorseful and learned his lesson.

Magistrate O.L. Oke granted Portable bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety in like sum. The case has been adjourned to March 5 for trial.
