Chelsea are reportedly preparing to make a significant move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface this summer, with sources claiming they are willing to splash £58m to secure the 24-year-old forward.
After a strong start to the 2024/25 season, Chelsea’s form has dipped, leaving them at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s head coach, has made it clear that improving the squad, especially in attack, is a top priority, and Boniface has emerged as a key target to bolster their forward line.
Currently, Chelsea’s strike force is being led by Nicolas Jackson, who is sidelined with an injury.
Maresca is eager to add more competition in the attacking department, and Boniface, who impressed in the 2023/24 season, has caught the Blues’ eye.
Boniface played a crucial role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title-winning campaign, scoring 14 goals in 24 appearances, and helping his team lift the DFB-Pokal.
He was also part of their successful Europa League run, where they reached the final. This season, despite a few injury setbacks, Boniface has still netted seven goals in just 12 Bundesliga appearances.
Although reports suggest that Boniface’s form has slightly dipped this term, Chelsea remain keen on securing his services.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea is ready to submit an offer in the region of £58m to bring the Nigerian international to Stamford Bridge.
Leverkusen, however, may demand a higher fee, with reports indicating that they could be willing to consider offers of around £58m for their star striker.
If the move materialises, Boniface would add a dynamic attacking option to Chelsea’s squad as they look to strengthen their push for trophies and secure their place among Europe’s elite clubs.
