Ogun LG Election: APC Claims Landslide Victory Across All Wards

Date:

The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Saturday’s local government elections in Ogun State.

Osibodu announced early Sunday that the APC secured all 20 local government chairmanship seats and 236 councillorship wards. Presenting the official results during a live broadcast at the OGSIEC headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, Osibodu disclosed that 613,156 votes were cast across the state.

“The elections saw participation from 19 political parties, including the Accord Party, Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and others. The APC emerged victorious across all contested positions,” he said.

Despite the APC’s landslide victory, opposition parties have rejected the results, citing widespread irregularities.

The Ogun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Femi Aina, accused OGSIEC of conducting a flawed election. He alleged irregularities such as voting with business cards, inadequate ballot papers, and late arrival of electoral officials.

“OGSIEC has questions to answer. The state House of Assembly must summon all OGSIEC officials to explain why the election was chaotic. NNPP rejects the results because the process was entirely unfair,” Aina stated.

Similarly, Lookman Jagun, the state chairman of the Labour Party, dismissed the election as a sham. He called for its cancellation, claiming violations of Ogun State electoral laws and public dissatisfaction with the process.

“We completely reject the results declared from this sham of an election. If OGSIEC does not cancel it, we will take necessary legal steps to challenge this charade,” Jagun said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also voiced strong criticism. Dr. Sunday Solarin, the party’s state secretary, described the election as a “sham” and accused APC thugs of intimidating and attacking opposition members.

The elections, though concluded with APC sweeping all positions, have sparked heated controversies and legal threats, as opposition parties question the integrity of the process.
