The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has disowned an individual identified as “Isaiah,” who was seen in a viral video wearing a jacket branded with the Lagos State Government and LASPA logos while holding a parking permit.
In a statement titled “LASPA Clarifies Unauthorized Parking Permits, Misuse of Authority’s Branding” released on Saturday, the agency confirmed that the man is not an authorized LASPA agent.
LASPA clarified that the parking permit shown in the video is meant solely for setback parking and is being misused. “All activities or actions suggested in the video are illegal,” the agency stated, adding that the on-street parking scheme in Lagos has not yet commenced.
“A pilot scheme is in the works, but no individual or agent has been authorized to collect fees for on-street parking or issue permits for such purposes,” LASPA emphasized.
The agency urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unauthorized persons posing as LASPA representatives.
“Only LASPA staff are permitted to wear uniforms featuring the Lagos State and LASPA logos while performing parking enforcement and related services,” the statement read.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities and assured of LASPA’s commitment to fair and transparent parking management.
“We remain dedicated to improving parking management in Lagos through measures that are transparent and beneficial to all residents and visitors,” the statement added.
