The South West Governors’ Forum yesterday passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, commending the economic improvements across the country. The governors highlighted the sustained supply and distribution of petroleum products as well as the stabilisation of the exchange rate as key achievements in the administration’s ongoing economic reforms.
A major focus of the meeting was the successful implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has provided vital financial support to students across the South West. The governors encouraged all eligible students to take advantage of this initiative to enhance their education and skill development.
In response to emerging security threats, the governors also took a proactive stance by establishing a Joint Surveillance and Monitoring Team to strengthen security coordination across the region. This collaborative effort aims to ensure the safety and stability of South West communities.
The forum also addressed the pressing issue of inflated food prices, which have been exacerbated by unscrupulous middlemen in the supply chain. As part of the solution, the governors announced the formation of a State Food Inflation Joint Monitoring Team, along with the creation of Aggregation Centres and Food Hubs to combat the rising cost of food.
In addition, the governors expressed their appreciation for the Federal Government’s establishment of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) with Cocoa House in Ibadan as its headquarters.
They also reiterated their full confidence in Odu’a Investment Company Limited’s management of the region’s assets, urging the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to work closely with the state Commissioners for Agriculture to boost industrialisation and infrastructure development in the region.
In conclusion, the South West Governors’ Forum reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, security, and economic growth, working in unison to address the region’s challenges and build a prosperous future for all.
