The Lagos State Government has announced plans to divert traffic from the outbound Apapa lane on the Marine Bridge starting Monday, November 18, 2024, through Tuesday, February 25, 2025. The diversion is to facilitate repairs on the asphalt pavement along the bridge.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, urging motorists to use alternative routes to minimize congestion in the affected area.
Travel Advisory and Alternate Routes
To ease movement during the repair period, the government has provided a detailed travel advisory for motorists:
- Motorists Heading to Lagos Island from Apapa:
- Take the Costain Roundabout towards Eko Bridge to reach Lagos Island.
- Alternatively, use Ijora 7-Up through the Marine Bridge to access the ramp leading to Ijora Causeway Access Road via Ijora Oloye. Then proceed to Eko Bridge to connect Lagos Island.
- Motorists Heading to Ijora Causeway/Iddo from Apapa:
- Use the Costain Roundabout to link Eko Bridge and access Ijora Causeway via the Eko Bridge ramp. Then make a U-turn on Ijora Causeway to reach Iddo.
- Alternatively, travel through Ijora 7-Up via Marine Bridge to access the ramp to Ijora Causeway Access Road through Ijora Oloye, and continue to Iddo.
The diversion will affect only traffic inwards Ijora Olopa, while movement towards Costain via Sifax remains unaffected.
Measures to Minimize Inconvenience
Osiyemi assured residents that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to the diversion points to manage traffic flow and reduce inconveniences for motorists.
He also emphasized that the repair timeline would be closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
“Motorists are implored to be patient as the diversion is part of traffic management plans to support the rehabilitation works being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works (Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos),” Osiyemi stated.
The Marine Bridge, a critical infrastructure connecting key areas of Lagos, is undergoing necessary maintenance to enhance its durability and ensure road safety for all users.
