The House of Representatives has named Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka (APC, Ogun) as its new Deputy Chief Whip.
The announcement was made by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, during plenary on Tuesday.
A statement by the Spokesman, House of Representatives, Rep Akin Rotimi, stated that Rep Isiaka`s appointment followed consultations with All Progressives Congress (APC), the majority party in the House.
Rep. Isiaka’s appointment follows the passing of the former Deputy Chief Whip, Rep. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga (APC, Ogun), who died in January.
According to the Speaker, “Following consultations with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus and other stakeholders from the South West, the Leadership of the House has received and accepted the recommendation of Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim to serve as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.”
Rep. Isiaka, (APC, Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency) Ogun State, was until his appointment the Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development.
He has held positions such as the Chairman of the Committee on Ecological Funds, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Governmental Affairs, as well as being a member of Ad Hoc Committees of the House.
In his address, the Speaker Abbas urged “ a moment to remember Honourable Onanuga’s invaluable contributions to this House, and to her nation. May her soul rest in peace. We congratulate Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim on this well-deserved elevation and trust that he will bring the same dedication and commitment to his new role as he has demonstrated in his service to this House and to his constituents.
“We wish him success and God’s guidance as he undertakes this important responsibility. May we all continue to honour the memory of Honourable Onanuga by working together to serve the Nigerian people with diligence, integrity, and a sense of purpose.”
