Plymouth Argyle will face the ultimate test in the FA Cup fifth round as they travel to Premier League champions Manchester City, following their shock 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
The Championship club, currently bottom of the table, pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the competition on Sunday, defeating Premier League leaders Liverpool at Home Park. Ryan Hardie’s second-half penalty sealed the historic win, sending Plymouth into the last 16.
Despite their struggles in the league, Plymouth’s cup run has been remarkable, having already eliminated top-flight side Brentford before their triumph over Liverpool. Manager Miron Muslic now leads his side into uncharted territory as they prepare to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who are seeking to regain their domestic dominance.
Elsewhere in the draw, FA Cup holders Manchester United will host Fulham at Old Trafford after securing a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, courtesy of Harry Maguire’s dramatic late goal.
League Cup finalists Newcastle United are set for an exciting clash with Brighton, who knocked Chelsea out of the competition, while Bournemouth will play Wolves in another all-Premier League encounter.
Aston Villa, fresh off a 2-1 win over Tottenham, will welcome Championship side Cardiff City to Villa Park. Meanwhile, either Doncaster or Crystal Palace will host Millwall, and Exeter or Nottingham Forest will face Ipswich.
The fifth-round ties will take place on the weekend of March 1 and 2, promising another thrilling round of action in this year’s FA Cup.
