2027 Elections : Katsina Elders Deny Reports of Calling For Tinubu Boycott

Date:

Retired Justice Sadiq Mahuta and Elder statesman has dismissed reports that the Katsina State Elders Forum has called for a boycott of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Mahuta, while addressing journalists at his residence in Katsina at the weekend, said the forum only raised concerns over the recent detention of Professor Usman Yusuf and never issued any political directive.

“The major issue that led to the press conference was the arrest and detention of Professor Usman Yusuf”.

According to him, the forum felt it was it’s duty to call for justice, either by arraigning him before a court or releasing him. I have learned that he has now been released.

Mahuta, a retired chief judge, strongly rejected reports linking the elders to any anti-Tinubu stance.

“This is not an elders’ language. It is not our position. We completely dissociate the Katsina Elders Forum from this statement,” he affirmed.

Justice Mahuta stated that he had consulted some senior forum members, including veteran labour leaders and other respected figures, with some supporting his position while others remained neutral.
