The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee held its first meeting of 2025 in Abuja on Thursday, approving a series of high-impact contracts aimed at improving infrastructure, security, and service delivery across the territory. The meeting, chaired by FCT Minister Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, marked a significant step in enhancing the living conditions of residents and aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Among the major approvals was a contract for the construction of a 33KVA power supply line from Dawaki to Bwari, along with a solar-powered street light system for Arab Road and the U-Shaped road connecting to Arab Road, Kubwa. The N3.065 billion project, awarded to Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited, is expected to be completed in six months. According to Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, the project will enhance security in the satellite towns, especially at night.
The Committee also approved contracts for the construction of multi-event sports centers in Abuja. Lot 1 was awarded to Messrs Earthgain Energy and Environmental Services Ltd, while Lot 2 was given to Tegwa-Tegwa Nigeria Limited. Both projects have a 12-month completion timeline.
In an effort to improve judicial infrastructure, the FCT EXCO approved the construction of two Magistrate Courts in Asokoro and Garki Districts at N7.6 billion and N6.3 billion, respectively. These projects, with completion periods of 15 and 18 months, aim to streamline legal proceedings and improve service delivery in the FCT.
To bolster security, the FCT Administration approved the construction of three new police divisional headquarters, each with six-man staff quarters, in Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Kwali Area Councils at a total cost of N3.648 billion. The new facilities will ensure that each of the six Area Councils in the FCT has two divisional headquarters.
“This is a milestone in terms of providing security infrastructure,” said Mr. Adamu Gwary, Director of the FCTA Security Services Department. “We have made significant progress in reducing crime in the FCT, and we will continue to strengthen our security efforts.”
The Head of Service of the FCTA, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, announced that the FCT EXCO has approved a comprehensive all-risk insurance policy for the FCTA’s movable and immovable assets for 12 months. The policy, mandated by the Federal Government, aims to protect government assets against various risks, ensuring business continuity and minimizing financial losses.
The insurance underwriters include Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc (Lead), KBL Insurance Plc, Cornerstone Insurance Plc, and Crown Takaful Insurance Ltd, while the brokerage firms involved are Sam/Vic Insurance Brokers Limited (Lead), Radiance Insurance Brokers Limited, and KOB Insurance Brokers Limited.
Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of FCT residents.
“These projects reflect our dedication to improving the lives of FCT residents. We will continue to prioritize security, infrastructure, and service delivery,” Amadi said.
The approved projects signal a renewed focus on comprehensive development within the FCT, with residents set to benefit from improved security, better infrastructure, and enhanced public services.
