The Yobe State government has taken a major step towards revamping its decrepit fertilizer blending plant, with a view to boosting the government’s agricultural, economic, job creation and export goals.

To this end, a delegation from the state led by Secretary to the State Government, Baba Wali, has visited Morocco-based world`s largest fertilizer company, OCP/Jorf Lasfar fertilizer complex.

The team included commissioners of Agriculture, Higher Education, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Chairman of Damaturu Local government council.

Conducting the delegation around the facility, Information Officer of the complex, Amine Jamaleddine, disclosed that the facility can produce 15 million tons of fertilizer annually, which it exports across the world.

The information officer also explained that the Moroccan fertilizer company employs about 20,000 staff.

This is as the company expressed readiness to partner with the Yobe State government towards resuscitating the state-owned factory.

On his part, the leader of the delegation, Wali, expressed satisfaction with the factory`s commitment to partner with the state government.

Governor Mai Mala Buni is expected to arrive in Morocco to discuss partnerships in other areas, including education and direct investments in local government areas.
