Lille Secure Akpom on Loan from Ajax with a Permanent Option

Date:

Nigeria international Chuba Akpom has completed a loan transfer from Dutch giants Ajax to French side Lille, a move that will see him stay at the Ligue 1 club until the end of the 2024-2025 season. The deal includes an option for Lille to purchase Akpom permanently, should they be satisfied with his performances.

The transfer is seen as a strategic move by Lille, with rumors swirling about the anticipated departure of star striker Jonathan David. If David leaves, it is likely that Lille will exercise the option to sign Akpom on a permanent basis.

Lille President Olivier Letang expressed his excitement about the new signing, highlighting Akpom’s versatility and valuable experience. “It is with great pleasure that we announce the arrival of Chuba. We have been following him for a very long time,” Letang said. “Chuba is a striker capable of playing in several attacking positions, and his qualities will bring strength and depth to our squad. His human qualities will allow him to integrate very quickly into the team. Chuba really pushed to join us, and we are very happy that he is now part of the Dogues family.”

Akpom, who made a name for himself with impressive performances at previous clubs, including Middlesbrough and Ajax, shared his enthusiasm for the move. “I am very happy to be here,” he said. “LOSC is a great club, one of the best in France, and plays beautiful football. The team has a fantastic mindset, and I am excited to start my adventure here. I would like to thank the President and everyone at the club for allowing me to sign.”

The Nigerian striker will be hoping to make a significant impact at Lille as they continue their push for success in both domestic and European competitions.
