Dortmund target €30 Onyedika as Bayern, Porto, AC Milan monitor Nigerian

Date:

Borussia Dortmund has set its sights on FC Brugges’ defensive midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, as the club seeks to bolster its squad.

The move comes in the wake of Felix Nmecha’s knee injury, which will keep him sidelined for several weeks.

The 23-year-old Nigerian has become a highly sought-after player, with top clubs such as Bayern Munich, Porto, and AC Milan also closely monitoring his progress.

Dortmund, along with the other interested parties, has reportedly made inquiries about the possibility of acquiring Onyedika, who can also play in central defence.

However, FC Brugges has made it clear that they are not open to selling the player during the winter transfer window.

While Onyedika is under contract until 2027, a move could be on the horizon in the summer, though any potential suitor will have to meet a reported asking price of €30 million.

Onyedika’s rise in European football began in 2019 when he moved from Nigeria to join the Midtjylland U-19 team in Denmark.

His standout performances there earned him a move to FC Brugges in August 2022 for a transfer fee of €9.5m.

Since joining Bruges, Onyedika has featured in 80 Jupiler League matches and 13 Champions League appearances, establishing himself as a key player for the Belgian club.

In response to recent injury setbacks, Borussia Dortmund acted quickly by recalling midfielder Salih Özcan from his loan spell at VfL Wolfsburg after an underwhelming stint.

However, with the transfer deadline approaching on February 3, it remains uncertain whether Dortmund will make further reinforcements to their central midfield.
