Sell Dessers now, Stewart tells Glasgow Rangers

Date:

Former Heart of Midlothian midfielder, Michael Stewart, believes that now is the ideal time for Glasgow Rangers to part ways with Cyriel Dessers following his new form.

Dessers has been in fine goalscoring form in recent weeks, netting six goals in his last four appearances for Rangers.

Despite his recent contributions, the Nigerian striker’s future at Ibrox remains uncertain, with speculation mounting over a potential January move away from the club.

At 30, Dessers has faced criticism from Rangers supporters, many of whom have labeled him a flop.

Despite this, he has managed to score 18 goals in all competitions this season, proving valuable in key moments even as he finds himself behind Hamza Igamane in the team’s striker hierarchy.

Stewart believes that the club should take advantage of Dessers’ recent good form to facilitate a move.

“I’d be over the moon with what’s happened in the last couple of games and just hoping that it makes it easier to facilitate a move out,” Stewart told Scottish Football Social Club.

“Dessers has scored some great goals, including two against Manchester United and Dundee United. But let’s be honest, he’s not good enough.”

Stewart went on to compare Dessers to fellow striker Antonio Colak, claiming that the latter was a more complete player than the Nigerian.

“Get Dessers out of the door because he’ll be on a big pack of money,” Stewart said.

“You might be able to recoup some money, but I’d be looking at those last two games and going, ‘Brilliant.’ Don’t be fooled into thinking there’s a player in there. We’ve seen enough.”

As Rangers continue their campaign, it remains to be seen whether Dessers will remain at the club or secure a move away before the end of the transfer window.
