Tinubu Leads Nigerian Delegation to Landmark Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday, January 26, 2025, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Scheduled for January 27-28, the high-profile gathering aims to propel “Mission 300,” a bold initiative to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

Organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, the summit will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society groups to tackle the continent’s persistent energy challenges.

The two-day event will focus on critical issues, including expanding energy access in underserved regions, advancing renewable energy, promoting energy efficiency, and mobilizing private-sector investments. A key highlight will be the presentation of national energy strategies, or “compacts,” on the first day, where participating countries, including Nigeria, will outline their plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.

On the summit’s final day, Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, charting a unified roadmap to achieve the ambitious Mission 300 goals.

President Tinubu will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership role in Africa’s energy sector. He will also showcase Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy initiatives and its integrated energy strategy for the continent.

Accompanying the president are key government officials, including Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen. The delegation underscores Nigeria’s strong commitment to addressing Africa’s energy needs.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja immediately after the summit, following discussions that could significantly reshape Africa’s energy landscape.
