2024 SSCE: NECO confirms full payment to 72,138 examiners

Date:

The National Examinations Council has officially confirmed that it has completed the payment of allowances to the 72,138 examiners who were engaged as ad hoc staff for the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, assured the public that all payments had been processed successfully.

The Council revealed that the payment process began on October 4, 2024, with a bank-by-bank approach aimed at easing reconciliation and ensuring smooth transactions. As of Wednesday, all 72,138 examiners have received their full allowances in accordance with NECO’s payment schedule.

NECO also addressed an earlier challenge involving some examiners who had submitted incorrect bank details. The Council clarified that these errors had been corrected and payments were cleared through all 24 banks involved in the transaction process.

In response to recent claims circulating on social media suggesting that NECO had deliberately withheld payments to its examiners, the Council dismissed such reports as false. NECO urged the public, especially those directly engaged in the examination process, to seek clarification from official NECO channels rather than relying on unverified social media information.

“The Management of NECO advises that individuals with concerns should directly contact the Council for clarification, rather than resorting to misinformation through media channels,” the statement read.

NECO concluded by expressing its gratitude to the examiners and other ad hoc staff, highlighting their invaluable role in the successful conduct of the 2024 SSCE. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to honoring the entitlements of all its personnel involved in the examination process.

The full payment to examiners is seen as a step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public examinations in Nigeria.
