The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Friday, January 24, 2025, officially commissioned the 5km Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure across the FCT.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Minister underscored the FCT Administration’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive from 2024 to construct at least one road in each of the six Area Councils. Wike’s address highlighted the ongoing road project commissioning activities, illustrating the government’s dedication to positively transforming the FCT’s infrastructure.
Focusing on Bwari Area Council, Wike detailed the substantial investments made by the Federal Government in both road infrastructure and education. He revealed that road projects in the area, such as the complete rehabilitation of the Dutse-Bwari road, have cost over N27 billion. Additionally, road projects in Ushafa, including the War College roads, have amounted to over N28 billion, with the Gaba-Tokulo road itself costing N7 billion. The total investment in road infrastructure for Bwari Area Council now exceeds N62.2 billion.
In addition to road development, Wike highlighted the government’s education sector investments, with more than N27 billion allocated for the renovation of Government Secondary Schools across the council, including those in Dutse, Bwari, Ushafa, Deidei, Kubwa, and Jibi. The total investment in Bwari Area Council’s development now approaches N100 billion.
The Minister assured the residents that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is being actively implemented and that all awarded contracts would be executed on time and to the highest standards.
Wike also addressed security concerns, announcing the construction of two new police divisions in Igou and Ushafa, which are expected to be completed by May 2025. These additions will significantly enhance security within the area council.
Responding to a request from the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. John Gabaya, for an extension of the Gaba-Tokulo road to Kawu near the Kaduna State boundary, Wike confirmed that the extension will be considered. He also pledged to fulfill the President’s directive for each Area Council to have at least one rural road project in 2025. Additionally, Wike promised an alternative route from Bwari to Kubwa would be explored.
Commending Setraco, the construction company responsible for the project, Wike praised the firm for delivering a high-quality road and instructed them to also install streetlights along the road, beyond the original contract scope.
In his remarks, Hon. Gabaya expressed his deep gratitude for the FCT Minister’s contributions to improving infrastructure in Bwari and across all six Area Councils within the FCT. He recalled the previous challenges faced by the residents of Tokulo, especially the dangerous state of the Gaba-Tokulo road, which had tragically led to the loss of lives. To show their appreciation, the Chairman presented a gift to the FCT Minister and the Minister of State on behalf of the grateful residents of Tokulo.
Wike’s visit and the commissioning of the Gaba-Tokulo road highlight the FCT Administration’s focus on improving the lives of residents, ensuring better infrastructure, security, and education across the territory.
