Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Enugu Zonal Command, have apprehended 37 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
According to an official statement from the EFCC on Wednesday, the arrests were carried out during a sting operation at Commissioners’ Quarters, Dr. J. O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka. The operation was based on credible intelligence linking the suspects to fraudulent online activities.

Recovered from the suspects were six luxury cars, multiple laptops, and mobile phones believed to be tools used to perpetrate the alleged crimes. The confiscated items are expected to assist investigators in building a case against the suspects.
The EFCC reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating cybercrime and warned that it would continue to intensify efforts to rid society of fraudulent practices.
The arrests come amid increasing efforts by the commission to clamp down on cybercriminals across Nigeria, a move that has been welcomed by many citizens who have expressed concerns over the rising prevalence of internet fraud.
