In a move aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the state, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the recruitment of 500 teachers. The initiative, which will be executed through the State Basic Education Board, seeks to address teacher shortages and improve learning conditions across public schools in Edo.
Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, the newly appointed Commissioner for Education, made the announcement on Wednesday, shortly after his swearing-in ceremony. Iyamu, who was confirmed by the state on Monday, emphasized that the recruitment process will be carried out in phases to ensure vacancies in public schools are adequately filled.
The recruitment drive, according to Iyamu, will be based on merit, and he urged qualified individuals to apply. “The government is committed to ensuring that all public schools in Edo are adequately staffed with qualified teachers,” he stated. “The era of overcrowded classrooms with just two or three teachers is over.”
This announcement highlights the Okpebholo administration’s continued focus on improving education in the state. The recruitment is expected to not only enhance the quality of education but also provide more opportunities for qualified teachers in Edo.
