Nigerian Police arrest 962 Criminals in Nationwide Sweep, Recover Firearms

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 962 suspects for various crimes across the country.

Since the beginning of 2025, including those involved in murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and fraud.

The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and ensure public safety.

According to Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, a significant number of suspects were apprehended for violent crimes

One hundred and seventy suspects for armed robbery, 100 for kidnapping, 152 for murder or homicide, 34 for unlawful possession of firearms, and 77 for rape.

Adejobi said, “Since January 1, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant achievements in the fight against crime.

“These include the arrest of 179 armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping suspects, 152 Murder/homicide suspects, 34 suspects connected with the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

“77 rape suspects, 110 suspected cultists and recovery of 73 various firearms, 310 ammunition of various calibres.

The Police were also able to recover 56 stolen vehicles and rescue 302 victims of kidnapping across the country.”

Additionally, 110 suspected cultists were arrested, and the police recovered 73 firearms and 310 rounds of ammunition. The force also rescued 302 kidnapping victims and recovered 56 stolen vehicles.

In a notable case, two suspects, Folarin Tomisin (35) and Yahaya Oladimeji (23), were arrested on December 13, 2024, for defrauding their employer of ₦300 million.

The two, employees of a lifestyle hospitality business in Ogun State, diverted the funds to their personal accounts to support their gambling addiction.

Despite the loss of significant amounts of money, the suspects admitted to minimal financial gains over the past three years.

Another operation led to the arrest of three suspects posing as soldiers in Abuja.

Muhammed Kabir, Donald Okpere and Haruna Ibrahim were arrested on January 16, 2025, for defrauding businesses with fake bank alerts.

Kabir, claiming to be a captain in the Nigerian Army, used the fake alerts to purchase medical equipment and phones. Investigations are ongoing as more victims come forward.

Adejobi confirmed that the suspects in both cases will face charges in court once investigations are complete.
