Tinubu Holds Crucial Meeting with Fubara, Wike and Ogoni Leaders

Date:

President Bola Tinubu recently held a significant meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, and key leaders from Ogoni land across four local government areas of Rivers State.

In attendance were several notable figures from the governor’s and minister’s delegations, including Senators Lee Maeba, Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, and Chief Victor Giadom. Other prominent personalities present included former Deputy Governor Chief Kenneth Kobani, Leedom Mitee, and Senators Bennett Birabi and Barry Mpigi, along with a host of respected leaders and professionals from the region.

The meeting, which also saw the participation of key members of President Tinubu’s cabinet, such as National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information and National Orientation Idris Mohammed, and Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas, as well as the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, is believed to have focused on matters of national and regional importance.

While the exact agenda remains undisclosed, sources suggest that discussions may have centered on critical issues related to the Ogoni clean-up project and the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland. The long-awaited clean-up of Ogoni land has been a significant concern for both the federal government and local stakeholders, and the meeting marks a key step in addressing these environmental and economic challenges.

The gathering signals the government’s continued commitment to resolving key issues in the Niger Delta and fostering collaboration between the federal government and local leaders in the region.
