Operatives of the Owode Egba Police Division in Ogun State have arrested two suspects for alleged vandalism and theft of cable wires and iron rods in the Ogunmakin area. The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Agbo Jeremiah and 29-year-old Sunday Ngbuta, were apprehended around 7 p.m. on Monday.
The arrest followed a tip-off from a driver who was transporting the suspects along with the stolen items. Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that the driver had alerted officers on duty, leading to the interception of the vehicle.
Earlier in the day, officers from the Safer Highway unit near Macpherson University had observed the suspects carrying rolls of cable wire and iron rods. When the men requested assistance to transport the items, suspicions arose about the origins of the materials.
Odutola explained, “The divisional police officer of Owode Egba arrested two suspects for conspiracy and vandalism related to IBEDC installation wires and iron in the Ogunmakin area. The driver transporting the items raised an alarm that prompted officers to stop the vehicle for inspection.”
During questioning, the suspects reportedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the ownership of the items, further raising suspicion.
The stolen materials are believed to be components of installations belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of their activities. Odutola reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling theft and vandalism, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in aiding law enforcement efforts.
