Liverpool Rejects Real Madrid’s £20m Bid for Alexander-Arnold, New Offer Expected

Date:

Real Madrid is preparing to make a renewed offer for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold after their initial £20 million bid was swiftly rejected by the Premier League leaders. Despite this setback, the La Liga giants are determined to secure the England international’s services before the close of the January transfer window.

Sources in Spain indicate that Real Madrid’s board is confident Alexander-Arnold will join the club in the summer, envisioning him as a key figure in their long-term squad rebuild. However, they are also keen to address immediate challenges, particularly after their 5-2 defeat to Barcelona last weekend, which exposed gaps in their defense and midfield.

Alexander-Arnold, currently 26, remains a key figure at Anfield but has faced criticism this season, including a difficult performance in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United earlier this month, where some fans voiced their frustration. Despite this, the player is reportedly reluctant to push for a move, mindful of the potential backlash from Liverpool supporters.

In the meantime, Liverpool is reportedly already planning for the future, with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich emerging as a potential replacement for the English full-back. Kimmich, like Alexander-Arnold, is out of contract at the end of the season and is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement, which Liverpool may pursue starting January 1.

While Real Madrid’s persistence signals their strong interest, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will relent, given their position at the top of the Premier League and their ongoing title pursuit.
