Work-Life Balance: UAE Cuts Work Hours, Extends Mall Timings for Ramadan

Date:

As Ramadan 2025 approaches, the UAE has announced adjustments to work hours, school schedules, and public services to ensure a smooth transition into the holy month. The changes, effective from March 1, reflect the country’s commitment to supporting its diverse population during this period of fasting and prayer.

Key updates include shorter work hours, free parking during iftar, revised toll charges, and extended shopping and dining times, as outlined by Gulf News on Sunday.

Private sector employees, including non-Muslims, will work two fewer hours daily, as mandated by Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, promoting work-life balance during Ramadan.

Parking fees will be waived during iftar, with updated paid parking hours set from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Salik tolls will follow a Ramadan-specific schedule, with peak hours (9 a.m.–5 p.m.) charged at Dh6 and off-peak hours (7 a.m.–9 a.m. and 5 p.m.–2 a.m.) at Dh4. Toll-free periods will run daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.

While official school timings for 2025 are yet to be announced, it is anticipated that private schools will adopt five-hour school days, with Friday classes ending by 12 p.m., consistent with previous years, as per Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

Ramadan will see extended mall hours catering to late-night shoppers, with most restaurants operating after dusk. Enclosed areas will offer dine-in services during fasting hours, alongside takeaway and delivery options.

These adjustments underscore the UAE’s focus on convenience and cultural harmony during Ramadan. With shorter workdays, free parking, and late-night services, residents can balance the spiritual and practical aspects of the holy month.

Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on March 1, subject to the moon sighting.
