Mercy Chinwo Accuses Manager of Diverting $345,000, Court Issues Arrest Order

Date:

The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a warrant for the arrest of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of popular gospel musician Mercy Chinwo, following allegations of financial misconduct. The court’s decision came on Thursday, January 16, after an ex parte motion was filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the request for an arrest warrant after hearing from EFCC’s counsel, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari. The application was made in accordance with the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to compel Onyedikachukwu to appear before the court on charges of criminal misconduct.

According to an affidavit presented by EFCC investigator Michael Idoko, Chinwo had lodged a complaint against Onyedikachukwu, accusing him of withholding royalties from her digital platforms and live events. The affidavit claims that Onyedikachukwu is suspected of diverting approximately $345,000, failing to distribute the artist’s rightful earnings.

EFCC’s counsel highlighted that previous attempts to locate and apprehend Onyedikachukwu had been unsuccessful, prompting the commission to seek an arrest warrant. Mrs. Buhari further indicated that if the manager continues to evade arrest, the EFCC would issue a public summons for his appearance.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 24, where Onyedikachukwu is expected to face the charges in relation to the alleged diversion of funds.
