Non-Payment of Land Fees: 568 Allottees Lose Plots in Maitama II

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the allocation of 568 plots of land in Abuja due to non-payment of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) fees.

The FCT Administration announced this decision in a public notice, citing the failure of allottees in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, to settle their C of O bills despite a grace period granted by the minister.

According to the notice, the revocation was carried out under Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which empowers authorities to withdraw land allocations for non-compliance with grant terms. The administration emphasized that titleholders who completed their payments on or before January 15, 2025, are exempt from the revocation.

“Allottees who failed to meet their payment obligations within the stipulated timeframe have contravened the terms of the grant, resulting in the withdrawal of their titles. However, those who settled their bills by January 15, 2025, remain unaffected,” the notice read.

The affected plots are part of a prime area in Maitama II, highlighting the importance of compliance with land regulations in the nation’s capital. The administration has also published the names of individuals and entities whose allocations have been withdrawn to ensure transparency.

This move underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to enforcing land-use regulations and generating revenue through compliance with statutory obligations.
