N15bn Earmarked for Benin-Akure-Ilesha Road in FG’s 2025 Infrastructure Drive

Date:

The Federal Government has earmarked N15 billion for the dualization of the Benin-Akure-Ilesha road, a major infrastructure project spanning 150.7 kilometers. This initiative, part of the Ministry of Works’ N49.74 trillion 2025 budget, aims to improve road safety and connectivity in the region.

The project will be executed in two phases: Phase I focuses on rehabilitating the existing road, while Phase II involves constructing a new lane alongside the current carriageway. This investment aligns with the government’s broader efforts to enhance critical transportation networks across the country.

In addition to this, the budget includes significant allocations for other key road projects:

  • N15 billion for the rehabilitation of the Bauchi-Jigawa state border road
  • N11 billion for the reconstruction of the Shagamu-Ore road (96 km)
  • N10.45 billion for dualizing the Akure-Ilesha road (66.15 km)
  • N9 billion for the Ukana-Ikot-Ntuen road in Akwa Ibom

Further allocations include:

  • N8 billion for the Lagos-Abeokuta road rehabilitation
  • N8 billion for the Abak-Ekparakwa-Ete-Ikot-Abasi highway in Akwa Ibom
  • N7 billion for the construction of the Ugep road in Cross River
  • N6 billion for the Oferekpe bridge, connecting Cross River and Ebonyi

The 2025 budget also highlights the government’s focus on completing ongoing projects. Minister of Works David Umahi emphasized prioritizing four key road projects per geopolitical zone, citing rising infrastructure costs due to inflation, naira devaluation, and the removal of fuel subsidies.

Despite Umahi’s pledge to focus on existing initiatives, the budget reveals allocations for both ongoing and new projects, signaling the government’s dual approach to addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure needs.
