NFF Appoints Eric Chelle as Super Eagles Coach

Date:

The Nigeria Football Federation has officially appointed Eric Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following a recommendation by the NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

The NFF Executive Committee endorsed this decision on January 7, 2025, after the committee’s meeting in Abuja on January 2.

Chelle, a former coach of the Mali national football team, takes over the reins from interim leadership.

He brings with him a wealth of experience, having coached various clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran. He has also been the Head Coach of Mali since 2022.

Under his leadership, Mali narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, losing 2-1 in extra time to hosts Ivory Coast.

A former professional player, Chelle has represented several French clubs, including Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais.

With five international caps for Mali, his playing background adds to his coaching credentials.

The 47-year-old’s appointment is effective immediately. He will now focus on leading the Super Eagles to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with crucial qualifiers set to take place in March.
