Rangers set to offload Dessers amid transfer rumours

Date:

Glasgow Rangers striker, Cyriel Dessers, could be on the move this winter transfer window, with reports indicating that the club is open to selling the Nigerian striker.

According to sources, the 30-year-old is attracting interest from other clubs, including Atlanta United, who previously had a £4.6m bid rejected.

However, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has stressed that while every player has a price, the initial offer was insufficient to part ways with the striker, who has contributed three goals this season.

Dessers’ future at Rangers has been in doubt for some time, with earlier reports suggesting that a transfer to Atlanta United almost materialised during the summer, before Dessers himself rejected the move.

There were links to Greek side PAOK before that deal also fell through.

Despite this, it appears the striker’s time at Ibrox may soon come to an end, with the club reportedly ready to cash in on him if a suitable offer arrives.

Joshua Barrie of The Rangers Review has indicated that Rangers are keen to reinvest any proceeds from a potential Dessers sale into strengthening other areas of the squad.

With new signing Hamza Igamane emerging as the first-choice striker and the return of Danilo from injury, Dessers has seen his playing time significantly reduced, starting only once in Rangers’ last seven Scottish Premiership matches.

Dessers, who has made 84 appearances for Rangers since joining, has frustrated fans with his inconsistent performances, especially his lack of clinical finishing.

The club could also benefit from freeing up Dessers’ wages to reinvest elsewhere.

With the January transfer window now open, it remains to be seen if a formal offer for the striker will be made.
