Udogie to Miss Two Months as Spurs Face Growing Injury Crisis

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie is expected to miss around eight weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Wolves on Sunday. The 22-year-old Italy international was forced off the field in the 50th minute, dealing a fresh blow to manager Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Udogie, who was a key figure for Spurs this season, has expressed that he anticipates a recovery time of about two months. However, unlike last season when he required surgery to repair a left quad injury, this current issue does not need surgical intervention.

The injury comes at a challenging time for Tottenham, as Udogie joins a growing list of sidelined players, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who is out with a fractured ankle. The defensive ranks are further depleted with the injuries to centre-backs Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies.

With 12 matches on the horizon, including a North London Derby, Carabao Cup semi-final legs against Liverpool, and an FA Cup tie against Tamworth, Postecoglou faces a tough challenge to manage his depleted squad.

Udogie’s absence will see Djed Spence, returning from suspension, likely deputize at left-back. The injury is another setback for Postecoglou, whose tenure at Spurs has already been marked by a number of hamstring-related issues among his players this season, including Wilson Odobert, Richarlison, and Van de Ven.

While Udogie believes his current hamstring injury is down to bad luck, it adds to an ongoing concern surrounding Tottenham’s injury record, with some suggesting the high intensity of Postecoglou’s training sessions may be a contributing factor.

Despite the setback, Tottenham will be hoping for a swift recovery for Udogie as they navigate a crucial period in their campaign.
