Fury Drops to No.3 in WBO Rankings Following Usyk Loss

Date:

Tyson Fury has seen a significant drop in the WBO heavyweight rankings following his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. The loss, a unanimous decision last month in Saudi Arabia, has knocked Fury from the top spot, where he previously held the No.1 position. The Gypsy King, who had already suffered a split-decision loss to Usyk in May, now finds himself ranked No.3 in the WBO rankings. Despite the setback, Fury remains No.1 in the WBC rankings but has been excluded from the WBA’s list entirely.

Fury, 36, had hoped to regain the belts from Usyk in their highly anticipated rematch, but once again fell short, leading to speculation about his future in the sport. Meanwhile, Usyk, 37, continues to solidify his place at the top of the heavyweight division, having successfully defended his WBO, WBA, and WBC titles.

As Fury grapples with the aftermath of the defeat, the boxing world has begun focusing on a potential showdown between Fury and fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua. The 35-year-old Joshua, who suffered a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September, has expressed interest in facing Fury in a highly anticipated all-British clash.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, confirmed that the only two fighters on the radar for 2025 are Daniel Dubois for a rematch and Tyson Fury. Hearn highlighted the monumental potential of a Fury-Joshua bout, calling it the “biggest fight in boxing” despite Fury’s recent setbacks.

“Fury vs. AJ is the biggest fight in boxing,” Hearn stated. “It might not be as big as it could have been, but it’s still the biggest fight in the sport.”

As Fury contemplates his next move, rumors of retirement swirl. However, with the AJ fight on the horizon, the heavyweight division may be in for an electrifying showdown in 2025, with both fighters looking to regain their standing in the ring.

Fury’s future remains uncertain, but all eyes are now on the possibility of this historic battle against Joshua, a fight that could define the future of British boxing.
