The Egbema ethnic nationality in Rivers and Imo States has formally endorsed former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Mike Okiro, as their candidate for the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide ahead of the January 10-11, 2025 elections.
In a media briefing at Okwuzi community in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ifi Francis Igwebuike, National President General of Ogbakor Egbema Alinso, declared that Dr. Okiro is fully qualified for the position. He emphasized that Okiro, a proud son of Egbema in Rivers State, has been a steadfast advocate for the development of the Egbema ethnic nationality.
The endorsement counters claims that Dr. Okiro is not an indigene of Rivers State and, therefore, unqualified for the position, which is zoned to the state.
Backing the endorsement, His Eminence Eze Evaristus Amuda, Nzeobi of Egbema Kingdom, described Okiro as a true son of Rivers State from Mgbede in Egbema, whose lifelong contributions to the community underline his leadership capabilities.
Youth leader Evaristus Nicholas also rallied Ndigbo nationwide to support Dr. Okiro, citing his dedication and vision for the Igbo socio-cultural organization.
The group further called for an immediate end to extrajudicial killings along the Egbema boundaries between Rivers and Imo States, urging authorities to address the lingering security challenges.
The election for Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s next President General promises to be a pivotal moment, with Egbema leaders placing their trust in Dr. Mike Okiro to lead the prestigious organization.
