N2bn Set Aside for SSA Vehicles in Nigeria’s Record N49.7tr Budget

Date:

The Federal Ministry of Works has earmarked N2 billion for the purchase of vehicles for Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) as part of its 2025 budget allocation. The expenditure forms a component of the broader N49.7 trillion proposed budget unveiled by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly on December 13, 2024.

The budget proposal, the largest in Nigeria’s history, is a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aiming to stabilize the economy, improve citizens’ quality of life, and enhance national infrastructure.

In the breakdown of the Ministry of Works’ budget, the ministry itself received the lion’s share, amounting to N1.07 trillion. This allocation includes N5.64 billion for personnel costs, N1.86 billion for overheads, and a significant N1.065 trillion dedicated to capital projects.

  • Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA): Allocated N64.88 billion, comprising N4.92 billion for personnel, N33.47 billion for overheads, and N26.49 billion for capital projects.
  • Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Survey: Granted N510.09 million, exclusively for capital projects, with no funds allocated for personnel or overhead costs.

Overall, the Ministry of Works and its agencies were allocated a combined N1.14 trillion, with a dominant focus on capital development projects to improve national infrastructure.

President Tinubu emphasized that the proposed budget is designed to address critical infrastructure needs and align with the administration’s commitment to economic revitalization. The record budget also seeks to attract investment, create jobs, and lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

While the N2 billion vehicle allocation for SSAs has drawn attention, it is framed within the broader context of administrative requirements to enhance operational efficiency.

The proposed budget will undergo legislative review and approval before implementation, setting the stage for a year of ambitious infrastructure development and economic progress.
