Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced that Lagos state will not conduct local government elections in its 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in 2025.
Gbajabiamila made this revelation on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) general assembly held at the Indoor Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere. He explained that the decision had been approved by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the party’s highest decision-making body in the state.
The new arrangement, which will allow the 37 LCDAs to function together, is set to be revealed by the party in due course. Gbajabiamila also addressed rumors surrounding his purported governorship ambition, although details regarding his stance on the matter were not immediately clear.
The announcement has sparked reactions across the political landscape, with many awaiting further clarification on how the LCDAs will operate without elections in 2025.
