FCT Police Deny Knowledge of VDM’s Alleged ₦180m Missing Funds

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stated that it is unaware of any investigation into the alleged disappearance of ₦180m from the account of an NGO owned by social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a video shared on Instagram on Friday, Otse claimed that ₦180m had been transferred from the NGO’s account to an unknown destination, leaving only ₦20m. He alleged that a suspect had been arrested and efforts were underway to recover the funds.

“Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and… 180m is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested. The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s ₦20m left, while ₦160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money,” Otse said in the video.

The claim has sparked widespread scepticism, with many questioning its authenticity and the sequence of events.

However, when contacted on Saturday, the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, denied any involvement in the case.

“The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it,” Adeh said. “The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.”

Efforts to reach the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, for further clarification were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of reporting.

Otse’s allegations and the lack of official confirmation have left many questions unanswered, further fueling debates over the incident and its legitimacy.
