TCN Announces Scheduled Blackouts in Abuja for Substation Upgrades

Date:

Residents of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will experience temporary power outages this weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) begins scheduled maintenance at two major transmission substations.

According to a statement issued by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, maintenance will be carried out on Saturday, December 28, and Sunday, December 29, to ensure the optimal performance of power equipment.

On Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., engineers will work on a 60MVA power transformer and associated switch gears at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. This will temporarily disrupt electricity supply in Gwagwalada and surrounding areas.

Similarly, on Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., TCN will perform maintenance on one of the 60MVA transformers at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation. Power interruptions are expected in areas including Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.

“The maintenance is necessary to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the power equipment,” the statement read. “TCN apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause, especially during the festive season.”

This maintenance follows an earlier postponement of work scheduled earlier this month at the Gwagwalada substation due to widespread complaints about power supply challenges in the FCT.

TCN reiterated its commitment to improving Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure and expressed gratitude to residents for their understanding during the planned outages.
