Air Peace Denies Fatal Crash in Western Sahara

Date:

Air Peace Airlines has swiftly dismissed claims of a plane crash involving one of its aircraft in the Western Sahara region, labeling the reports as “false and malicious.” The allegations, which spread across social media on December 26, 2024, claimed that the crash resulted in fatalities, including the death of a prominent individual.

In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, emphasized that the rumors were baseless and deliberately designed to tarnish the airline’s reputation. “We categorically state that this information is false and malicious,” Ndiulo asserted, adding that the images circulating alongside the claims were AI-generated and had no connection to any real incident involving Air Peace.

The airline further pointed out that the individual behind the post had a history of spreading unfounded and alarming stories about non-existent tragedies. This includes the viral post on the platform X (formerly Twitter), which falsely alleged that 50 lives had been lost in the supposed crash.

As part of its response, Air Peace urged the public to disregard the rumors and rely only on verified information from official sources regarding its operations. “We urge the public to disregard this malicious disinformation and rely on official channels for accurate information,” the statement read.

This incident underscores the growing challenges of combating misinformation in the digital age, particularly within the aviation sector, where the spread of false reports can have serious implications for public trust and safety. Air Peace reiterated its commitment to maintaining high safety standards and reassured passengers that the airline continues to operate with excellence.
